Alzheimer’s Disease – A General View (Part 2)

The doctor may also decide to bring in a specialist consultant. Together they will continue to work to narrow down the possible causes of the patient’s form of dementia. After other possibilities have been eliminated the doctor may give a diagnosis of Alzheimer’s disease. However, it is only after a person has died and an autopsy performed can there be a certainty.

Although there is at present no known cure for Alzheimer’s there are treatments designed to help slow its progress down, to help alleviate some of the symptoms, to help the patient cope with the challenges of the disease, and to help achieve the best quality of life as possible. There are also a number of organizations that seek to help and give comfort to those with Alzheimer’s and those that are caregivers.
